Irish Citylink's and GoBus's sustainability strategy is anchored in four key pillars, each designed to address critical social and environmental challenges:

Sustainable transportation

Safety first for customers

Community initiatives

Environmental stewardship

Sustainable transportation

Here at Irish Citylink and GoBus, we are aware that the delivery of our services has a direct impact on the environment. As such, we are dedicated to operating a bus network that is efficient and environmentally responsible. Our ongoing efforts are geared towards reducing our carbon footprint and fostering sustainability wherever we operate. Our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our services was reflected through the partnership with Galway International Art Festival 2023 as the official Travel Partner to festival goers. Recognising the significant footprint and costs associated with individual vehicle travel to festivals, we provided festival goers with an affordable alternative that reduces traffic congestion, decreases air pollution, and supports a more sustainable future. In the coming years, we will be transitioning towards a fleet of coaches with low emissions, incorporating the latest advancements in clean technology. These coaches will reduce air pollution and improve fuel efficiency, thereby contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Safety first for customers

Ensuring the safety of our passengers, employees, and the public is paramount. Our rigorous safety protocols and regular maintenance ensure our coaches remain reliable and secure. We continuously train our drivers in safe driving practices, ensuring they adhere to the highest safety standards on the road.

We have deep roots in the communities we serve. Our coach services goal is to connect communities and what matters to them while also improving these communities by providing our passengers, who consist of students, regular work commuters, sports fans, holidaymakers and more, with reliable service and comfort at an affordable rate. We support community projects that enhance education, healthcare, and social well-being through partnerships, sponsorships, and volunteer efforts.

Community initiatives

In 2022, we participated in various community-based programmes, including partnering with the Irish Cancer Society for the Care For Your Pair campaign, a campaign created by the Irish Cancer Society to spread the word about the importance of breast health and raise funds for breast cancer patients and their families across Ireland in October. To raise awareness for this campaign, we livered a pink Care For Your Pair coach to support the Irish Cancer Society, showing support for people impacted by breast cancer throughout the country.

Inclusive transportation

Recognising the importance of creating an inclusive transportation system, we have taken significant steps to accommodate the diverse needs of passengers. By recognising the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, we aim to eliminate barriers and make public transportation more accessible for individuals with disabilities, empowering them to travel freely and independently on our services. Recognising the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is part of our ongoing efforts to improve accessibility. We aim to modify our buses and facilities in the coming years, including priority seating for individuals with disabilities and improved signage to assist visually impaired passengers.

Environmental stewardship

We have embarked on a journey to minimise our environmental impact by partaking in recycling programs and promoting waste reduction on our coach services and facilities. We actively seek feedback from our stakeholders, including passengers, employees, and local communities, to refine our initiatives and strategies.

We will continue to push the boundaries of sustainability, safety, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. Our goal is to be an industry leader and inspire positive change in the communities we serve.
