Just A Bus From Cork - Citylink's New Look In Cork

Getting to the Airport. It can be stressful. In fact 77% of people surveyed know it can be stressful. But here's the thing - it doesn't have to be this way. That's where Citylink comes in. Corkonians from around the county have been relying on Citylink to get them to and from Dublin Airport year-round, around the clock, with no hassle and a smooth ride.
A survey, conducted via Opinions.ie, showcases that it’s not just turbulence or take-off nerves weighing people down, it’s the traffic, parking, delays and uncertainty before they even reach the M50! Nearly 9 in 10 people (88%) agree that airport parking costs are high, while 74% said parking can be difficult to find. Meanwhile, 72% say driving and traffic contribute significantly to travel stress, rising to 84% when flights are delayed or schedules change.
The research makes it clear: Irish travellers want airport journeys to be simple, predictable and cause them less anxiety.

That’s where we step in! To ensure 99 problems but airport travel isn't one, we here at Citylink have launched our new campaign, Just a Bus from Cork, leaning into the local Cork humour and pride while highlighting awareness towards our direct Cork to Dublin Airport route as a fantastic straightforward alternative to driving.
“What this research shows very clearly is that for many people, the stress starts long before they reach the airport,” said Seán Ó Ciardha, Marketing Manager, Citylink. “Traffic, parking costs and the pressure of getting there on time all add up. With our Cork to Dublin Airport route, we aim to remove as much of that stress as possible — offering a simpler, more flexible way to travel that people can rely on. Citylink connects people across Ireland every day, and this route in particular plays an important role in supporting travellers moving between two of the country’s key cities, whether they’re heading away for work, family or holidays.”
We want to highlight how little you need to think about the trip to the airport and instead encourage all Corkonians to hop on our coach and lay back and relax. Let the holiday start straight away!
As part of the campaign, Citylink is working with Cork personality Kevin Twomey. The phrase “Just a boy from Cork,” widely associated with the podcast I’m Grand Mam which is co-hosted by Kevin. The collaboration taps into the same Cork sensibility and turns Just a Bus from Cork into a familiar, catchphrase that residents will relate to. “Cork people have a habit of keeping things simple,” said creator Kevin Twomey. “When Citylink said ‘Just a Bus from Cork’, it made perfect sense to me. No drama, no overthinking, you get on the bus that is from Cork, someone else does the driving, and you’re sorted.”

So, let us do the driving while you sit back and relax. With our modern, comfortable coaches and a service relied upon daily by commuters, families and travellers, we aim to make the journey part of the trip, not the most anxious part of it.
Because remember, especially when airport travel starts to feel overwhelming, it’s just a bus from Cork!

Travel should be as easy as possible! Therefore we have created a one stop shop for all things luggage. Here's a simple guide to your luggage with Citylink.
Luggage allowance
At Citylink we have a generous luggage allowance, when you’re traveling with Citylink you are allowed the following free of charge:

1 x 20kg suitcase (hard or soft shell)
1 x 10kg suitcase (hard or soft shell, with or without wheels)
1 small soft bag such as a school bag or very small backpack, suitable for onboard storage only.

We do allow for extra items at the cost of €5.00 per item. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee space for extra luggage, so it is always important to include it when you’re booking your ticket online so that we are aware.
Tag your bag
When your bag is held in the luggage compartment of the bus it can get mixed up with other baggage. Therefore, it is crucial you tag your bag to reduce any mix-ups. To tag your bag you can:

Tie ribbon or string on to the outside of the suitcase so it is identifiable. This is especially important for plain coloured suitcases.
Place stickers on your suitcase, so it is unique. Get creative with it!
Insert contact details into an outer pocket, so IF it were to be lost it can be traced back to you and returned.

Keeping valuables on the bus with you
It is always important to keep your valuables with you on the bus. Please don’t leave any of the following in the underneath of the bus:

Important documents (passport, visas, ID cards etc.)🪪
Electronics (phones, laptops, tablets)💻
Important medication 💊
Jewellery of importance of sentimental value 💍

Other important information:

Large, heavy, bulky or awkward sized packages may not be allowed on the bus depending on space. As well as any luggage of dangerous nature or which have sharp or protruding edges which may damage other luggage may not be permitted.
Any food items that may cause leakages or odours are not permitted, such as raw meat, fish, or large bags of grains such as rice etc.
Rucksacks, sports bags, and gear bags must be stored in the luggage compartment.
All wheeled suitcases must be kept in the luggage compartment.
No luggage is permitted on the seats, and must be stowed over head or under the seats.

There you have it. Take a look at our Terms of Carriage also for more information.

A Budget Friendly Weekend in Galway

Just because it is January doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! The bank account may have been ran dry after Christmas, but I am here to provide you with a one night stay in Galway that won’t burn a hole in your pocket!
Your first step is getting there, and of course you will hop on a Citylink. Depending where you are coming from the price will range from €24-39 for a standard return ticket. Students can get 50% off with their YAC card, and we accept FTPs. Booking online and in advance also helps you save 10% compared to buying on the bus!
Although it will be a jam-packed weekend you still need somewhere to stay, so here are a few budget friendly options:
Galway is teeming with hostels and there are plenty of affordable ones such as The Woodquay Hostel (€35pp), as well as more expensive types such a The Nest Boutique Hostel (€50pp). Galway also has copious amounts of B&B’s for you to choose from, which range in price from €40 to €110 per person. A good place to start your search is along College Road which has plenty of options for places to stay.
Now that you’ve somewhere to rest your head, next stop is some food!

When you arrive you will be hungry, and the first stop for some grub should be McCambridges, with a deli filled with delicious and fresh ingredients you can choose from one of their sandwich creations or conjure up your own, all for around €6.50, not bad for a hefty sambo!
After lots of walking and exploring you may need a pick me up, the next spot to head to is Pizza & Pasta Napoli, a tiny hole in the wall that serves fresh Neapolitan pizza slices the size of your head for only €4.50!
For your dinner head to Xi’an get one spice bag (they’re so big you can easily share) for €8.50, a tub of curry sauce and head to one of the many pubs along shop street (Freeny’s, Tig Coilí, Tigh Neachtain), sit outside, grab a pint of Guinness and munch.
The next morning, If you are in Galway on a Saturday you would be silly to miss the St. Nicholas’ Market. It is a magical place filled with all the foods your heart could desire. From sushi to Indian food it has it all. We highly recommend the Galway Bay Bakery Bagels, their Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese bagel for €6 is to die for!
And before you head back home pop into Lana Asian Street Food (there is one on Mary Street or out in Salthill), which has a rotating monthly special that will set you back €11.95 and comes with a guarantee that it will be tasty! Perfect fill before heading home!

You’ve now been fed and watered it’s time to go do something!

Galway City Museum – a free activity that will take you back in time to explore the history of Galway. Scope out the Galway Hooker hanging from the ceiling and the model Claddagh overlooking the (real) Claddagh. A great activity for a rainy day (which, in Galway, there are plenty!)
Head to the legendary Róisín Dubh, they often host free or affordable gigs throughout the year, it’s a great way to listen to some new bands and explore the Irish music scene.
Listen to some trad music. Galway is filled with bars and pubs that play trad music daily. They are mostly free and are a great way to explore Irish culture! A few of our favourites are The Crane, Tig Cóilí and Taffes!
If you’re a history buff, or enjoy architecture, take a stroll through the Quad on the University campus and take a pit stop at the Cathedral while you’re at it.
Head out to Salthill and grab a coffee. Walk the prom and allow the wind to knock off any cobwebs (or hangovers!). Take a dip if you’re feeling extra brave! It’s hard to believe the beautiful West Coast is that close.
Take a free walking tour around Galway, the one we recommend is Stroll To The Stout, a free 1 hour tour of Galway that ends in a pub and pouring your own Guinness, you also get to keep a polaroid of yourself! Pretty cool if you ask me!
Go charity shop shopping, Galway is one of the most stylish cities, so check out what they have on offer in the multiple charity shops dotted around the city. A good place to start is along Merchant's road.

When you’re all finished (and extremely sad to be leaving) you can hop on the Citylink in complete comfort and enjoy a peaceful journey back home.
All in all, you can have a lovely one night stay in Galway for under €100 and that's food (and a few pints included!), now that's not too bad!
