Citylink's new Galway to Shannon Airport service proves huge success
Passenger numbers up over 50% in first two weeks
The success of Citylink’s new direct service Galway City to Shannon Airport, which was launched just two weeks ago, has surpassed all expectations with passenger numbers exceeding predicted take-up by over 50%. Feedback from Citylink customers has been extremely positive, reflecting that customers have been waiting for this kind of direct service for many years.
Allen Parker, Managing Director Citylink said:
"The considerable demand and support for our new Galway City to Shannon Airport route, still in its infancy, reflects that the public is crying out for fast, frequent, value for money coach services. Our new direct service which operates four times daily in each direction was designed around the Shannon Airport flight schedule which is what the consumers want and need and is reflected by its success in such a short time. We look forward to offering the Citylink travel experience to many more customers in Ireland as we expand our services to many more cities and towns throughout the country in the near future".
The introduction of the new Galway to Shannon Airport route has been widely welcomed by those involved in the tourism and hospitality industry. The Citylink service has considerably improved transportation links between Shannon Airport and Galway and will be a major enabling factor in the development of passenger journeys through Shannon Airport. Citylink is confident that the Galway to Shannon Airport route will open up the region to incoming tourists and assist in the promotion of the area.
"We are extremely grateful for the marvellous support we have received, particularly from locally based travel agents, hotels, hostels and B&Bs along the route which has been significantly instrumental in the success of this new route," said Allen.
The commencement of the new route follows a recent investment by Citylink of €3 million in ten new high-specification, state-of-the-art luxury coaches, underlining the company's ongoing commitment to provide quality and reliable public transport services in Ireland. Citylink currently operates up to 14 daily departures in both directions between Galway, Dublin and Dublin Airport and all Citylink coaches are fitted out to a high level of comfort and all have on-board air conditioning. No coach in the fleet is more than two years old ensuring the highest levels of passenger comfort guaranteed by Citylink.
Citylink is part of the Metroline Group which also operates Aerdart, a fully integrated link between Dublin Airport, the DART and rail services. Citylink aims to develop a national integrated network of intercity coach services in Ireland over the next two years.
