ComfortDelGro expands presence in Ireland with new inter-city coach service

ComfortDelGro Corporation today further cemented its position as the world's second largest land transport operator by introducing its second inter-city coach service in Ireland.

The new service by ComfortDelGro's subsidiary, Citylink Ireland, will run from Galway to Cork, via Limerick. The route is Ireland's second busiest after the Galway-Dublin link - which Citylink Ireland already operates.

The Galway-Cork route, which has traditionally been operated by state-owned transport company, Bus Eireann, is a lucrative one with an estimated annual ridership of 450,000. Demand is strong throughout the year partly due to the fact that there is no rail link connecting the three popular cities.

Cork is Ireland's second largest city after Dublin and has a population of over 500,000. Tourists and businessmen regularly travel to Cork, Galway and Limerick for leisure and work purposes. Backpackers, for example, favour this West Coast route because of the large number of hostels and camping grounds available.

To cater to the growing demand for regional travel, Citylink Ireland will eventually operate 28 daily services to run between Galway and Cork. The operator's 13 coaches will run non-stop between the three cities, ensuring that commuters get to their destinations faster.

ComfortDelGro Managing Director and Group CEO, Mr Kua Hong Pak, said:

"We are delighted to have been awarded the licence to operate this highly sought-after route. Having operated the Galway-Dublin route for four years now, we have built a reputation for speed, comfort and reliability. We intend to bring our expertise to the residents in Cork and Limerick."

ComfortDelGro has been operating in Ireland since April 2001 through its predecessor. Since then it has established a strong reputation for reliable and quality service as Ireland's newest intercity Coach Operator.

Citylink Ireland operate intercity coach services and general coach travel services within Ireland. Based in Galway, Citylink operates daily coach services between Galway to Dublin City and Dublin Airport and Galway to Shannon Airport. Citylink Ireland is one of the largest private operators of scheduled services and as part of the ComfortDelGro Group we have access to a vast amount of knowledge and expertise in the land transport industry.

A key business incentive is a continual focus on meeting and exceeding customer expectations. Citylink strives to meet those expectations by providing the highest levels of customer services in all areas of its business.

Through Citylink's interactive website, www.citylink.ie, customers are able to search for travel schedules, pre-book their seat on a specific service and print their own ticket to ensure a fast and efficient booking service.

ComfortDelGro is the world's second largest land transport company with a total fleet size of 40,000 buses, taxis and rental vehicles. Headquartered in Singapore, the Group also has operations in China, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Vietnam and Malaysia. Currently, overseas ventures account for 44% of Group revenue.
